2 Red Lights Xbox 360 Fix - Introduction

If you find two red lights flashing on your Xbox, it means its time for 2 red lights Xbox 360 fix. There is nothing to panic about this as this is what happens to practically all Xbox gamers. Instead of panicking, you have to learn, and carry out a 2red lights xbox 360 fix.

The first thing to do here is to check that all its cords are connected properly. If you find not 2 but 4 red lights on the gaming console, it means that the error stemmed from the audio/V cord. This is why you have to check that all cords are rightfully connected.

Error due to disconnection of GPU

The error also occurs because of the X-clamps found on the back of the motherboard. The components connected with the X-clamps get loose, leading to the disconnection of the graphics processor unit (GPU) and motherboard. This in turn leads to a malfunction of the video display system of the Xbox.

It is because of overheating that all this actually occurs. The higher is the temperature in the Xbox, the higher is the expansion of the X-clamps. However on cooling, these clamps start contracting.

Over a span of time, the repeated contraction and expansion of these X-clamps leads to a loosening of the clamp. Eventually, there is no connection between the GPU and motherboard.

Remove the motherboard

For a 2 red lights Xbox 360 fix, you have to unscrew the console and remove the motherboard. The screws found on the reverse of the motherboard, and which are fitted with the X-clamps then have to be tightened.

Then you have to replace and reconnect the motherboard, along with the other parts. This done, your 2 red lights Xbox 360 fix is complete, and you just have to switch on the console to ensure everything is working fine.

uh no, i went on the microsoft website and two red lights mean that the console has overheated, all it requires is a few hours to cool down. You need to get your facts right before trying to sell people things that ared going to void they're warranty.

actually he's right tim. yes the two red lights in themselves occur from overheating, but they are a symptom of the "no video" problem. i found this very helpful.

Actually the guys a moron, the GPU is apart of the board. The x-clamp holds the heat sink firmly against the GPU and CPU. The part he did get right was the expansion and contraction of the x-clamps. but the GPU doesnt seperate from the board, the heat sink does. If you have problems with the 2 red lights. Dont buy some morons "Profesional Repair Guide", just YouTube it!

The 2 Red lights error is TYPICALLY caused by overheating. However, if there are fractured or open solder connections anywhere in the CPU heat sensing circuit you will get this error. If you want to know how to fix it without buying someone's guide go here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=6

Basically you disassemble the xbox, take the motherboard out, place it one a flat surface and slowly heat up the components around the CPU and GPU with the heat sinks off. Then heat the components under each unit. Heating is done using a 1000 watt heat gun on medium slowly heating the affected area and not stoppping on any spot or risk frying components. This reflows the solder that would have been cracked or otherwise damaged by overheating. There are components ON the CPU and GPU that may also need to be reflowed. The GPU CAN separate from the board if it gets too hot! If you heat up the xbox motherboard with the heat sinks clamps in place you could damage either by causing them to shift or flatten the solder and support adhesive under each one. This guy is NOT a moron. Saying the GPU is part of the motherboard means you have NO IDEA what YOU are talking about.

I find that reflowing solder is easiest if you dump lighter fluid in through the fans while the xbox is on. Don't use gasoline. You are looking for a controlled burn. I'm also not talking about butane, it will evaporate before you can put the lit matches in the DVD drawer.
